Hello to all who reads this blog. I had an idea for a story that I will be posting on here. Each week will be a new chapter. Please tell me what you think. Any comments would be nice. Do not be afraid to leave any response. Please enjoy this first chapter of “Sunny Storm”.
Sunny Storm
Chapter 1
I knew it had to be one of those beautiful, sunny days outside, because the sunlight was shinning on my face. My bed is right in front of the window in my room, so it always did. I wanted to sleep some more, so I covered my face with a pillow.
“Kyle! Wake up! It’s time to get to work!” Master Magenta called from downstairs. Master Magenta is a tall man in his early fifties, with short grey hair. He is also my guardian since my parents were killed in a bandit raid. He has watched over me since I was five years-old. By the time I was old enough to work, Master Magenta made me deliver everything that he makes for the townspeople. He is a carpenter, and the best one I ever known.
“Kyle! I said wake up! Do you want me to come up there, and throw you out of bed?” he called once again. I knew that both Master Magenta and the sun would not let me sleep, so I crawled out of bed. I made my way to my dresser, and put on my regular clothes. They were a black, buttoned-up shirt, a pair of baggy brown pants, and boots. I placed my black goggles with green lenses on my head, where my thick, long black hair flowed. Master Magenta always said that my hair was too long. I do not really care, though. I like my waist length hair. Before he started yelling at me again, I walked down the wooden stairs to the living room. Master Magenta was hammering a nail to one of the legs of a wooden chair.
“Good morning, Kyle. I see that you are finally up.” Master Magenta said to me. “I need you to deliver this chair straight to Isaac. Though, I am going to miss this chair very much. This is my greatest masterpiece.”
“Of course it’s your greatest masterpiece. Everything you build is your greatest masterpiece, until you finish building the next one.” I said, still irritated for being woken up.
“That is true. This is only because, I continue to get better each time I build something new.” Master Magenta said. “Now hurry up and give this to Isaac! I don’t pay you to sit around all day.” I wanted to say, “You don’t pay me at all”, but that isn’t true. Instead of giving me money, he pays with food, shelter, and friendship. Everyday, I am thankful to have met him. I picked up the wooden chair Master Magenta made, and made my way out of his house.
The delivery was to Isaac, the town’s grocer. He is a kind, and short man that who is the same age as Master Magenta. If you want to stay on his good side, never mention or make fun of his height. He will become as angry as a bull if you do so. As I walked through the town it was as peaceful as ever with people talking amongst themselves or working. The children were playing with each other in the patch of grass in town. Farm animals were walking in the fields without a simple care in the world. This town had always been like this even, on stormy days. It never changed during the time I lived here. I liked the peace and quiet. It somewhat grew on me over the years. I walked over to Isaac’s store to see him standing at the counter.
“Good morning, Kyle! Did you come to bring the chair I asked Magenta to build for me?” Isaac asked with friendly smile.
“Yes I have. Here you go.” I answered. I carried the wooden chair to the other side of counter where Isaac stood. He examined the wooden furniture up and down, probably to make sure there were no mistakes. He never wanted to spend money on something that would break quickly.
“Thank you for bringing the chair over. I needed a new one for my dining room. Here is your payment.” the grocer said. He pulled a small bag of golden coins from his pocket and handed it to me. I took the money and made my way back to Master Magenta’s house. Before I could leave, Isaac stopped at the doorway.
“By the way, you are eighteen now, right? Why don’t you leave Magenta, and go out in the world? He can take care of himself; you have been stuck here for thirteen years.” Isaac said.
“No. I like living here with Master. I will leave this town when I feel like it.” I said to Isaac with a smile.
“I guess you can do whatever you want with your life, Kyle. I’m just saying that Magenta will not live---“. He was interrupted by a large crash from outside. Both Isaac and I ran out of the store to see one of the town houses covered in complete flames. The people in town were running into their own houses, or trying to put out the fire. A man hidden in a black robe and hood stood the middle of the town. He slowly turned to look towards us. A large ball of fire formed in his right hand, and he threw it towards me and Isaac. The impact knocked both Isaac and me to ground.
“No! My store! My beautiful, wonderful store!” the grocer cried, and then ran in the burning store.
“Isaac! You can’t go in there! You will get yourself killed!” I called after him, but he never came out. I had to save him, but first I had to deal with the man causing the fires. I charged towards him, having noting but my bare fist to defend myself. Time seemed to slow down as he moved behind me. Before I knew it, he knocked me out cold with a heavy blow to my head. I lay on the hard ground, unconscious. When I came to hours later, everything was gone. The whole town, from building to fields, was burnt to ground. I stood up, trying to keep myself from bursting into tears. My eyes continued to look at the horrifying sight, and suddenly they locked onto something.
“Master Magenta!” I cried as I ran towards him. He lay in front of his burnt house, holding a sheathed sword in his left hands. He was covered from head to toe in cuts and burn marks.
“…Kyle. You must listen…and listen well…” Master Magenta said, breathing heavily. “…Take this that I hold…and get the spells….Get the spells and become a spell-blade…”
“Get spells and become a spell blade? What is a spell-blade?” I asked. Why am I asking these questions? I needed to get help for Master Magenta’s injuries.
“…Kyle…There is too much for me to explain right now…I need to save the sword now…The world is in terrible danger…The end of my life is near…” said Master Magenta.
“Stop talking nonsense! You’re going to be alright! You just need to see a doctor!” I cried.
“…It is too late Kyle…Take the sword…Follow my directions…Hurry…Get the…spells…” said Master Magenta, letting go his last breathe.
“Wake up, Master! Wake up, Master Magenta!” I cried, tears pouring down my face. I knew that the man in the black robe did this to Master Magenta. He destroyed the entire town, my only home. I had to follow Master’s instructions and become a spell-blade.
