Find out in Sunny Storm: Chapter 5!

Sunny Storm
~Chapter 5~

Rashad and I walked up the stairs of the abandoned church with herb to heal Father Luke. It hurt to walk up steps because of my back. The soreness and pressure radiated down my entire spine and lower shoulders. I hope that there would be no more chimeras for a long time. The nun was still by the old priest’s bed sit. He continued to cough harshly from his illness. Rashad gave her the herbs and she examined them. A sudden smile came on her face as she said, “Congratulations future spell-blade. You passed.” Rashad and I looked at each other in confusion.
“Yes. Congratulations on passing your first test.” Father Luke said. He stopped coughing and did not look so pale, anymore.
“Were you faking your sickness this entire time, Father Luke?” Rashad asked.
“Yes, but for good reason. I like said before, this was a test.” The elder priest answered. “Not everyone can become a spell-blade. They must pass several different trails to prove their worth, and gain the power that they rightfully deserve.”
“Then you know what a spell-blade is, right?” I asked. This actually turned out better than I expected. This was finally what I waited for. Master Magenta would be proud of me if he was alive, today. Though, maybe he was proud of even in the afterlife.
"Yes we do. A spell-blade uses magic to to their weapons. Most spell-blades use swords, which the name original came from. There might be mages, sages, necromancers, and other people that know magic, but spell-blades were special. They could use magic just with their sword, alone. Although, they were completely different as well." Father Luke started to explain. "You can not use magic without the sword. You can make the blade of the sword catch on fire, but you need a sword. There use to be dozens of spells blades many years ago. Though, some spell-blades started taking advantage of their powers. In the end, only one to few can have that title these days. It is my job with many other people in the world to test a person to see if they are worthy of being a spell-blade. Now, it is time to gain your first spell."
The elder priest reached under his pillow and took a book from under it. He took a page out that looked a lot older and different from all the other pages in the book. The handed it to the nun, who then walked up to me and asked, "Kyle? Do you promise to use the spell of Healing to heal those who are ill, and save the wounded who are dying? If you answer yes, than we, Keepers of the Healing Spell, bestow upon you this spell."
"Yes. I will take this responsibility as a spell-blade." I answered. The nun than handed me the page. I looked at it. The page was very old, and the writing was hard to read. It was not even in English. Though, that suddenly changed as I felt a powerful rush in my head. It was like all the writing on the page made sense, and it was sending all this information into my brain at once. It got too unbearable, and I eventually feel to the ground. I dropped the page and held my head in pain. The nun and Rashad knelled over me.
"Kyle! Are you okay?" The priest asked.
"Yeah...My head just hurts so much..." I answered in pain.
"It always hurts the first time you remember a spell. Do not worry. All the spell-blades go through that their first time. It gets easier after awhile. That is why we made you grab the herbs. They help heal headaches." Father Luke said.
"I use them in tea. I will go make you some right now." The nun said.
"Allow me to assist you." Rashad said. The two walked downstairs. I continued to sit on the ground. I held my head in pain. I wished my master had told me this would be painful the first time. That must be what he meant by, "You live and learn through life's everyday experiences". The only problem this was not part of life's everyday experiences.

  1. William, I love your little teasers for each chapter. This was another fun installment that continues to develop Kyle's strength as a character and his development into a spell-blade. I'm excited to see where you go next!
