Sunny Storm
~Chapter 4~
Rashad and I made our way back to the forest. It seems like I was getting nowhere at this point, but maybe I will find what I am looking for after helping the high priest. As we walked into the forest, Rashad said, “We may be going up against a powerful creature, Kyle. I hope your swordsmen skills are not in need of practice.”
“To be honest, I never used a sword before,” I replied. Rashad stopped after hearing that.
“You mean…you do not know how to use a sword?” He asked.
“I never even touched one until my master gave me one, before he died.” I answered.
“Then how do you intend to fight this creature?! You could get yourselves killed!” Rashad warned.
“I won’t know until I try, right?” I replied. “Besides, do you even know what the type of herb we are looking for?”
“If my memory serves me correctly, there is an herb that has great effects on colds. It grows in a forest like this, but under dark climates with barely any sunlight.” The priest answers. “That might be where this creature is.” We continued walked deeper into the forest. I started to feel excited and fear. I never fought a creature before, and Rashad was right. I never even used a sword before. There was a possible chance that I could be putting my life at stake. Though, I had to at least try. This so called creature could have just been a wild dog or boar. How bad could this so-called “creature” be, anyways? Suddenly, a loud roar made use stop in our tracks. Birds flee away quickly from the area.
A shadowy figure stepped in front. It stood twice as tall as us. It had the head of a dragon and a lion sharing the same body. The tail was a snake with venom dripping from its fangs.
“A chimera? How is it possible for a creature like this to be out here?” Rashad asked in surprised.
“What’s a chimera?” I asked.
“It is a creature that was part of an experiment of science and alchemy. It is when you combine two or more creatures to make a new one. Chimeras are rare and some are known to be highly dangerous.” Rashad explained. The lion head roared as the dragon spewed fire from its mouth. Rashad and I quickly got out of the way.
“You gather the herb, Rashad! I will distract him!” I called out to him. He nodded, and ran past the chimera. The two headed creature was about to turn around and chase after him, but I stabbed my sword in to one of its paw. The two heads roared in pain and smacked me with its opposite front paw. I was sent flying in to a nearby tree, and my back slammed against its trunk. The wind was completely knocked out of me, but I had to keep going. I slowly got up as I saw Rashad hurry to gather the herbs from their roots The chimera was slowly turning towards his direction, again. I ran to another tree that stood above the chimera.
I climbed the tree quickly as I yelled out to my priest friend, “Rashad! Grab my sword and toss it to me.” He quickly turned to see the chimera run towards him. The dragon head breathed fire from its mouth, but he quickly ran in front of the creature before getting hurt. He quickly pulled the blade from the creature’s paw, and tossed it to me. I caught it and jumped down on the creature. I climbed on to the dragon’s head, and stabbed my sword in to its eyes. The dragon cried out in pain, and rose up on to its hind legs. I almost fell off, but I held on tightly to one of its scales on its head. I stabbed my sword into its other eye. It cried out in louder pain and threw me off while it shook his head in a wild manner. My body fell harshly to the ground. Rashad and I looked up to see what the chimera would do next.
The dragon’s head still cried in pain, and was in a fit of rage. In his angry and painful state, the dragon’s head breathe fire on to the lion’s head. The lion’s head fell limp. Smoke rised from it blackened head that had been burnt from a direct fire. That was one less problem to worry about. I ran towards the chimera and plunged my sword in the dragon’s neck. He cried out one last time before the body tipped over. Blood streamed from its neck as I removed my sword. I chopped of the snake that acted as a tail. It was attached to a large body, and would die anyways from lack of food. It died in a matter of seconds. I breathed heavily as I felt a sudden pain rush up my back. I fell to my knees, but Rashad helped me keep standing.
“Did you get the herb?” I asked. He nodded and showed me the dark green herb in his hand.
This is a very good and exciting chapter. I liked how you described the fight and i could picture excatly how the creature looked and what was going on and usally i can't do that for other books, good job -Joe Kovacs
ReplyDeleteI like the bravery the main character displays. It makes the novel very interesting so far and I can't wait to read what comes next!
ReplyDeleteWilliam, I like that you've gotten back to the action; it's one of your strong suits! I love Kyle's bravery and am impressed by his skill with a sword. I also like learning about chimera and other fantastical elements. There were a few errors in tense and dialogue punctuation, but this was another great installment of Kyle's story!
